WBT TO CONTROL DIAL WAVERING

Frequency Maintenance Device Installed as Step in Perfecting Transmission.

A new design of the frequency control is being worked out at radio station WBT to maintain a frequency without wavering at a cost of $3,500, it was announced yesterday by E. T. Gluck, general manager of the Charlotte station.

The heart of the frequency control is laid with quartz crystal to maintain a high order of accuracy. The new instrument will hold the wave length to within the fiftieth part of a million, Mr. Gluck explained.

Trial tests are being made each night between the Charlotte station and Schenectady. The tests have proved satisfactory so far, Mr. Gluck said.

It is hoped that the instrument will be so perfected that it can be used March 23, when station WBT becomes the key station of the third largest radio circuit in the country, with the inauguration of the new Dixie network, which will involve 21 stations throughout the south.
