WBT NEW TRANSMITTER BUILDING UNDER WAY

The contract for the erection of a $20,000 transmitter building located eight miles south of Charlotte for Radio Station WBT has been awarded to Southeastern Construction Company, it is reported by Earle J. Gluck, general manager of the North Carolina station.

A contract was signed several weeks ago for transmitting equipment, costing approximately $100,000 to go into the building. The equipment will increase the available power of the station from 5,000 watts to 50,000 watts, although but 25,000 watts will be used, in accordance with the Federal Radio Commission's permit.

The new building, which will be an addition to the present structure, will be of brick and concrete. Construction work has been started. The power company and the telephone company providing service for the broadcasting company have already started work on their phases of the enlargement of the station's power.

The transmitting equipment is being supplied by the RCA Victor Company, of New York City, and R. G. Beerbower, supervising engineer for that company, is in Charlotte to supervise the installation of the new equipment.

It is estimated that approximately three months will be required to complete the installation.
