Progress in radio technique during the last ten years is clearly indicated in the comparison between the old and new tubes use in the powerful 25,000 watt transmitter of station WBT, Charlotte, first super-power station in the south.

At left, Frances Paxton supports the five-foot tube used in the newly opened transmitter, each one of which is valued at $1600. Compare it with the tiny tube held by Virginia Paxton, which was standard equipment in the original transmitter of 1921.
