Fight To Keep Highway Name "Nations Ford"

Dr. J. R. Alexander Opposes Change To `WBT' Highway—Refers To Historical Associations.

Declaring that the title of the Nations Ford road represented one of the few connecting links with Mecklenburg's early history, Dr. J. R. Alexander said today that protest will be made to the state highway commission against changing its name to WBT highway. Dr. Alexander, is joined in this sentiment by Thomas Griffith, chairman of the former Mecklenburg county highway commission, and others.

Neither of the men wishes to impede progress nor hinder the expansion program for the radio station, but declare they are unable to see how this change will aid the radio station while the road as it is now called bears close relationship to the colonial history of this section.
