WBT - The Early ThirtiesChanges

The Charlotte Observer, Mar. 24, 1931

THE DIXIE NETWORK DEBUT.

Senator Joe Robinson, from Little Rock, officiated at the formal opening of WABC's Dixie Network, of 19 stations, of which WBT, at Charlotte, is the key station, and a fine new line of entertainment is opened to the radio world. And meantime, WBT is still pulling for increased power to make it one of the dominant radio corporations of the nation. Orchestra presentations have become a popular feature of radio programs in recent times, and in this line it is to be remarked that the local station is taking prominent place. Not only is its assembled orchestra one of the best on any of the chains, but the selections are of the classical kind, embracing music which requires no highbrow interpretation. Its 9:30 Sunday night studio program is one of the most entertaining that comes from any station.
