In the early morning of June 19, 2014, Mrs. Marion Miller Costner passed away peacefully surrounded by family. She was 67 years old. Marion was preceded in death by her brother George Miller and her sister Ruth Gaston both of Charlotte, NC.

Marion was born in Charlotte, North Carolina on January 20, 1947. She was the youngest daughter of Avery Wallace Miller and Robert Lee Miller.

Marion was a Honor Society graduate of Second Ward Senior High.  She attended NC A&T University, UNC-Greensboro and graduated from UNC-Charlotte.  She taught G.E.D. courses to US soldiers in Germany after marrying her college sweetheart Wilvon Costner while he was stationed there in the Army. Upon her return to the States, she worked as a copywriter then Promotion Director for several years at WBT/ WBCY Radio. She directed many notable events such as Charlotte’s Fourth of July Sky Show and the “World’s Largest Attic Sale”. Marion operated and co-owned The Drake Restaurant in downtown Charlotte for several years which attracted customers from all walks of life from all over the city.  Mrs. Costner joined Belk’s Department stores as a sales representative and later retired from the customer service department.  Mrs. Costner enjoyed making many crafts, sewing clothes and toys for her sons and grandchildren.  She enjoyed taking trips with her granddaughters where they would ride the train for English Tea parties. Marion also was a gourmet cook and a passionate reader of literature. She was instrumental in instilling good values, manners and culture in her children and grandchildren.

Family left to celebrate her life are her husband of 46 years, Wilvon Costner; sons Stefan (Gaynelle) Costner of Upper Marlboro, MD and Avery Costner of Silver Spring, MD; grandchildren, Ashley Costner of Charlotte, Samantha Costner of Upper Marlboro, MD, Nasir Costner and Naima Costner both of Silver Spring, MD; brothers, Calvin Miller and Leonard (Mary) Miller; niece, Avery Gaston;  nephews Leonard (Yashica) Miller Jr all of Charlotte, and a host of other relatives and friends.
